What is the role of IBPS in bank recruitment?

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) plays a vital role in the recruitment of individuals for various institutions in India, especially banks and financial institutions.

History: IBPS originated from the nationalization of banks in 1969, NIBM (National Institute of Bank Management) was formed for research and training. Subsequently, a vertical Personnel Selection Service (PSS) was created for selection and training purposes. Finally, 1984In the 1960s the PSS evolved into the IBPS, an autonomous body for recruitment and training.

Role of IBPS in Bank Recruitment

IBPS provides a standard and transparent recruitment process for banks. The primary recruitment activities are wide ranging:

  • Conduct of CRP (Common Recruitment Process): IBPS conducts CRP for various posts for 11 participating banks, including PO, Clerk and SO. In 2024, CRP XIV for Clerk, PO and SO and CRP RRB XIII for Regional Rural Banks will be conducted.
  • Organization and conduct of examination and interview: IBPS is responsible for conducting online written exams and interviews for various posts across the country. This includes setting of question papers, conducting the exam and evaluating the performance of the candidates.
  • Transparency and Fairness: IBPS plays a vital role in ensuring transparency and fairness in the entire recruitment process. It follows strict guidelines and best practices to maintain the integrity of the selection process, thereby minimising any possibility of discrimination.

Before the establishment of IBPS, each bank had its own selection criteria, exam pattern and evaluation methods. IBPS introduced a unified recruitment process, providing a common platform for candidates to apply for posts in participating banks through a single examination process.
